In the 80s, the Swedish company Boliden Mineral AB dumped nearly 20,000 tonnes of toxic waste on the open earth beside the town of Arica in Chile. The public was uninformed of the dangers, and a playground was built on the hill of arsenic, mercury, cadmium and lead. Their children deserved better.
When a fire broke out in a textile factory in Karachi, Pakistan, it was clear that it had never been a safe place to work. That wasn't even the first fatal fire that had ever broken out in a factory producing textiles for the German company KIK. The surviving family members found the courage to take KIK to court.

February 9 the environmental committee voted for strong environmental and climate obligations for corporations, thanks to thousands of people like you who wrote to their representative in the European Parliament.
Following a three day meeting of our coalition in Brussels, we gathered in front of the European Parliament on the fourth anniversary of the mining dam collapse in Brumadinho, Brazil that killed 272 people from the community. The mine had been certified as safe by a German auditor. We asked the European Parliament to make sure this never happens again.

On the day we launched our campaign, we brought our scales of justice and the white stones with messages from citizens to Schuman square. Three members of European Parliament came out to read the stone messages and show support. The launch of the campaign was mentioned in a debate inside the European Parliament. The launch was in major EU news sites Euractiv and Politico.
Together with the Belgian climate movement Rise for Climate, we brought our scales of justice to a climate protest. We asked citizens to signs white stones with their messages for justice, and to add them to tip the scales in favor of justice over gold. We spoke at the rally about the harm of European corporations and the need for binding obligations for business on human rights, environment and climate.
